RONNY RACER PART 3

THANK YOU FOR READING RONNY RACER: PART ONE AND 2. TOOK A WHILE BUT FINALLY HAVE THEM ALL ON ONE BLOG HERE.

Continuing on to part three:

Update:

When we left off Dan was driving his tractor trailer on a side road. a red sports car flew by. Dan had seen a blinking light that had suddenly dissapeared. Ronny had left his place on his racer to his brothers for Christmas dinner.

PART 3 :

Suddenly Dan saw thin tire tracks, and what looked like a bike in the culvert a half a mile ahead. He couldn’t see anybody, then to his horror a deer ran out in front of him. He slammed on the brakes and the rig fishtailed, flipping on its side, careening off the road just before the biker.

Dan came too about five minutes later, pain shooting through his lower body. He figured something he needed was broken, leg probably.

He was laying on his side, a fencepost having smashed through the windshield narrowly missing his head.

Freezing air had seeped through the cab indicating his power lines had been severed. He tried to reach the CB, but it was too far from his fingers. His arm hurt every time he moved, pinned under something.

Suddenly he heard a dog barking incessantly.

He shouted.” Help” Help” Over and over.

To his amazement the dog crawled onto the windshield sliding back every time trying to get a foothold. He was sniffing and whining, then jumping down again digging into the jammed doorway.

Dan lay there fishing around for the snow scraper, again just out of reach. He could hear the dog close by barking. He’d seen a farm house just up ahead and prayed somebody heard the crash.

Meanwhile, Ronny lay lay dazed in the ditch, his new Vagabond bike was still intact, one wheel spinning around, red reflector blinking. He felt alright except for a pain in his right shoulder. He rolled out gingerly from under the racer, testing his arm.

He knew something wasn’t okay then. Shoulder broken or dislocated.

He remembered there had been a big rig behind him, just before a red sports car sideswiped him into the ditch. Also a deer jumped over him, narrowly missing his bike.

He heard a dog barking. Unclear if it was friendly he lay still. Visions of some hound taking his face off didn’t appeal to him. The dog ran towards him, standing on the highway barking down at him, tail wagging.

“Lucky! Is that you boy?” Ronny shouted.

Lucky realizing it was Ronny, scrambled down the bank, barking and licking his face. The dog instinctively must have known something was wrong as he tried to nose him into an upright position. Dragging him onto the road as Ronny yelled “Pain! Pain!”

He lay there a moment. He could now see the big rig on its side about a half a mile down the road.

“I see it boy.” Ronny patted Lucky as the dog frantically ran back and forth to him and the truck, barking over and over.

Ronny finally boosted himself up, walking slowly along the icy road. Lucky crawled by the windshield again, as Ronny got there and slid gingerly down into the culvert.

He could see Dan laying on his side.

‘”Hello. Are you alright?”

“Yes! Dan hollered, “Down here. I think my arm is broken.”

“Geez man, I can’t believe you’re still alive. This rig is a write off.”

Dan squinted in the half light at Ronny.

“Hey are you okay man? Your head is bleeding.”

Ronny touched his forehead, as he dragged out a red handkerchief dabbing his wound.

“Ya, it’s nothing .I’m okay. Maybe a sprained shoulder. That red sports car was flying. He knocked me into the ditch. Its okay, Lucky found me. He’s my brother’s dog. I was on my way for dinner.”

“So it was you. I knew there was somebody on the road. I saw your light blinking.”

“I need to get some help here.”

“I think my CB is working, I just can’t reach it.” Dan groaned.

Ronny smashed out the rest of the windshield.

“Can’t reach it.” He grimaced. “But, hey man.” He stood up quickly. “There’s a car or something. I can see lights up the hill.”

“Oh, thank God, can you flag him down?”

Ronny was already, loping awkwardly up the road, one arm waving, as he reached the crest of the hill. Just as quickly he came back.

“It’s a bobcat plow. He’s closing the end of the road. He can’t see us.”

“Oh please go and get him.”

“I’ll try. I just don’t want to leave you man. I’m Ronny by the way.”

“Dan.” He muttered dropping his head down again. ” Please. Do what you can man. I’m freezing.”
